ACERS CEREMONY

On Friday, May 5, 2023, a short but memorable ceremony was held to honour and celebrate outstanding students, who excelled in the examinations of the first term of the 2023 academic year. Opening the ceremony, Miss Joyce Odei, the Head of the College Leadership Team, urged all students to pursue excellence in all their doings, especially during challenging times.

While congratulating the new entrants into the class of Acers for the term, she acknowledged those who could not retain their membership and entreated them to be even more diligent, so they would make the roll call at the next ceremony.

A new category was introduced for this term’s ceremony – the most improved student. The maiden recipient was Papa Kofi Aidoo of the 3 Science class. Papa Kofi showed remarkable academic improvement in the previous term’s examination. Students were encouraged to emulate his sheer grit and zeal for success.

While congratulating her for maintaining her status as an Acer since the inception of the Acers club from the third term of her first year in school (3rd term of the 2021 academic year), Ms Odei encouraged her to do even more. She also entreated all form three students, who fell by the way because of the extremely tough nature of the school’s first mock examination (first term examination for final year students), not to give up but stretch themselves to make it in grand style at their pending West African Senior School Examinations (WASSCE) due to start in July.

Each Acer was presented with a book award by various teachers and a badge of honour by the Admissions and Alumni Manager, Mr Agyare Oduro. Master David Ankrah, the only form two student to make 11A1s had a special book award from one of his Physics tutors.

The Acers club was instituted by the Board and Management of Hope College to appreciate the outstanding academic performance of students at the end of every term’s examination. For a student to be an Acer, he or she must make at least 6A1s in the eight West African Examination Council (WAEC) subjects.  This is aimed at encouraging academic excellence among students.
